San Antonio’s Innovation and Technology Committee Develops Smart City Initiatives

Mayor Ron Nirenberg of the City of San Antonio, Texas recently announced the formation of the Innovation and Technology Committee which will work with the city’s Innovation Office to develop smart city initiatives.

“I am proud to announce the creation of the Innovation and Technology Committee, which will ensure that San Antonio stays ahead of the curve so that we can remain economically competitive, inclusive and resilient,” Mayor Nirenberg said. “This committee will focus on growing smart city initiatives that will drive solutions to our most pressing challenges.”

The innovation and technology committee will address on smart city goals, strategies for growing the cyber security industry, digital inclusion initiatives, open data, improving mobility, expanding municipal broadband access, and pursuing economic opportunity – all under one roof.

“We intend to harness the mutual interests of all stakeholders in order to create an innovation and technology ecosystem that attracts long-lasting investment in San Antonio. Innovation and technology are the essential ingredients to San Antonio’s recipe for future success,” Councilman Pelaez, chair of the new committee, said. “We have an obligation to maximize our potential as a city where technology fuels opportunity, inclusion, engagement and innovation for all. Our efforts will be focused on developing a guiding policy and identifying solutions that will allow more residents to participate in our burgeoning tech community. We intend to harness the mutual interests of all stakeholders in order to create an innovation and technology ecosystem that attracts long-lasting investment in San Antonio, creates new-economy jobs and enhances the quality of life for all San Antonians.”
