Smart City leaders from around the globe participated in the launch of the Smart Cities Innovation Summit Asia at the Korean International Convention Center (KINTEX) on September 20-22, 2016. Public officials from Korea hosted international city leaders from North America, India, Spain, Sri Lanka, Monaco, and Morocco for three days of networking, sharing and learning about global smart cities initiatives. The event was hosted by the Mayor of Goyang City, Dr. Sung Choi and organized by KINTEX and TechConnect.
More than 500 people filled the conference hall on the opening morning for keynote addresses including top officials from Korea’s Central Government, international city officials and leaders in academia. The morning sessions concluded with a leadership panel moderated by Mayor Sung Choi including panelists Archana Vemulapalli, CTO, Washington DC; Dennis Gakunga, CSO, Chula Vista, CA; Kamlesh Yagnik, CRO, Surat India; and influential Korean officials.
It was truly a memorable kickoff to a remarkable event as everyone came together to share, network and learn from each other. The tremendous momentum of the Korean smart city industry provided a great backdrop with meaningful insights for the international city officials and technology executives.
The afternoon sessions consisted of city spotlight presentations from public officials and innovation challenge sessions led by technology executives from disruptive startups including StratIS, Roost and Paradyme Shift.
Conference programming on Wednesday and Thursday consisted of morning keynotes from both public officials, academics and technology executives. Topics included smart government, energy, infrastructure, networks, mobility and citizen life. The conference rooms were packed from start to finish with a high level of audience interaction.
