Huawei and Infocomm Amplify Smart Parking Solutions

Huawei, a networking and telecommunications equipment and services company, and Infocomm, a smart parking products and services provider, have announced an alliance using IoT technology. Infocomm will use OceanConnect, Huawei’s IoT platform, to provide smart parking services. OceanConnect is provides the connectivity necessary for such programs as Smart Home, Internet of Vehicles (IoV), intelligent meter reading (IMR), smart parking, and Safe City.

Smart parking uses low-cost sensors, real-time data collection, and mobile-phone-enabled automated payment systems that allow people to reserve parking in advance or very accurately predict where they will likely find a spot. A smart parking system will reduce car emissions by reducing the need for people to needlessly circle city blocks searching for parking. It also permits cities to carefully manage their parking supply.

As an example, the city of Barcelona has implemented a sensor system that guides drivers to available parking spaces. The sensors, embedded in the asphalt, can sense whether or not a vehicle is parked in a given location.  The application that drivers to use locate parking also allows them to pay for parking online. Within a year of implementation, the city was issuing 4,000 parking permits per day through the application.

Karim Rahemtulla, managing director at Infocomm Group stated, “Infocomm delivers technology that can provide an important contribution to resolving real-world issues. By partnering with Huawei, we are able to integrate advanced IoT-based technologies into our smart parking solutions and offer customers with innovation that adds value to their real-world needs. IoT is clearly going to transform the way devices are going to communicate with each other and with people, and our goal is to help organizations take advantage of this technology to increase efficiency and benefit all societies”.
